If you are a nurse, a pharmacist, a social worker or a paramedic dreaming of Canada permanent residence, this one is for you. On September 4, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held round #441 of Express Entry and invited 3,500 candidates from the healthcare and social services occupations category. The CRS score cut-off was 475.
That is the third healthcare-focused round of 2026 and one of the biggest category draws of the year. Here is what happened, who it covers, and what to do this week if you want your name in the next one.
Canada Express Entry 2026: inside the September 4 healthcare draw
Here are the official numbers straight from IRCC's rounds of invitations data:

That tie-breaking rule matters more than most people realise. If several candidates sat at exactly 475 points, IRCC only invited those whose Express Entry profile was submitted before that date and time. Two people with identical scores can get very different outcomes purely because one created a profile months earlier. Getting into the pool early is free, and it is one of the few advantages you can give yourself without another language test.
Who is eligible for the healthcare and social services category
This is the part people get wrong most often. To be invited in a healthcare round you must first be eligible for one of the three programs under Express Entry, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program or the Canadian Experience Class. Being a nurse alone does not put you in the pool.
On top of that, IRCC requires at least 12 months of full-time work experience (or the part-time equivalent) within the past three years in a single occupation from the official list. Three details make this friendlier than it sounds:
- The experience does not have to be continuous, twelve months added up across the three-year window is fine.
- It can be gained in Canada or abroad, which is why this category is such a strong route for nurses and care workers still at home in Nigeria, India, Ghana or the Philippines.
- The eligible occupation does not have to be your primary occupation on the profile.
The category currently covers 37 occupations. Alongside the obvious one, registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 31301), licensed practical nurses (32101), nurse practitioners (31302), pharmacists (31120), physiotherapists (31202), medical laboratory technologists (32120) and paramedical occupations (32102), it reaches well into social services with social workers (41300), social and community service workers (42201) and therapists in counselling (41301). Nurse aides and patient service associates (33102) and pharmacy assistants (33103) are on the list too, so TEER 3 roles are genuinely in play.
Why the CRS score cut-off stayed at 475
Look at how the healthcare category has moved through 2026 and a clear pattern appears:
- February 20, 2026 — round #398: 4,000 ITAs at CRS 467
- June 25, 2026 — round #422: 4,000 ITAs at CRS 475
- September 4, 2026 — round #441: 3,500 ITAs at CRS 475
The cut-off has settled into a narrow band in the mid-460s to mid-470s. Compare that with program-specific rounds in the same period: the Canadian Experience Class round on September 1, 2026 closed at CRS 521. In other words, category-based selection is currently worth roughly 45 CRS points to a healthcare candidate, the difference an extra degree or a spouse's language test might buy you, handed over simply for working in the right occupation.
What the Express Entry pool looks like right now
IRCC also publishes the CRS distribution of everyone waiting in the pool. As of August 30, 2026, there were 226,673 candidates, spread like this:
- 601–1200: 559 candidates
- 501–600: 19,542
- 451–500: 74,105
- 401–450: 60,413
- 351–400: 46,824
- 301–350: 17,495
- 0–300: 7,735
Roughly 94,000 people sit at 451 or above, intimidating, until you remember a category round only ranks the slice of the pool that meets the category requirements. Your competition here is not 226,673 people; it is the far smaller group with twelve months of experience in one of those 37 occupations. That is why category-based selection has become the most reliable route to Canada PR for mid-scoring applicants.
How to get ready for the next round of invitations
IRCC has held 53 rounds in 2026, issuing 126,156 invitations, and runs rounds roughly every two weeks. Another healthcare round is a question of when, not if. Your checklist:
- Create or refresh your Express Entry profile today. The tie-breaking rule rewards early profiles, and there is no fee to sit in the pool.
- Declare the eligible occupation correctly. Match your duties to the NOC 2021 code, not the job title on your payslip. Reference letters must show dates, hours per week and duties.
- Bank every easy CRS point. Retaking IELTS or CELPIP is usually the cheapest jump; a spouse's language results and a second ECA often add 20–30 points between them.
- Keep documents current. An expired police certificate or medical exam is the most common reason a strong candidate misses the 60-day window after an ITA.
- Watch the provinces too. Several PNP streams recruit healthcare talent directly, and a nomination adds 600 points.
The bottom line for healthcare applicants
Canada is telling us what it wants with invitations rather than press releases. Three healthcare rounds in 2026, 11,500 invitations between them, and a cut-off holding near 475 while CEC rounds sit above 520, that is a standing offer to health and social care professionals.
